Has Ukraine’s Former President Porošenko Provoked Divine Justice?
In the heart of Mykolaiv, Ukraine, a Turkish family once thrived—a family that established a humanitarian bridge between Turkey and Ukraine. Through their foundation, Fond İnan, they tirelessly worked to provide food, clothing, and support to the most vulnerable: the poor, orphans, and families of fallen soldiers.
The founder of this noble organization, a Turkish journalist and entrepreneur, had lived in Ukraine since 2013. He had a Ukrainian wife and two young daughters, Elif and Ayşe. In addition to his journalistic work, he raised livestock to ensure that impoverished Ukrainians could enjoy fresh, high-quality meat.
Through an e-commerce platform, Turkish communities across the globe—Europe, America, and beyond—donated livestock, with the expectation that the meat would be distributed to Ukrainian families in need. The foundation organized these distributions with transparency and dedication, crossing all boundaries of religion, language, and ethnicity.
But what should have been a story of unity and charity took a dark turn on July 12, 2018.
A Morning of Injustice
On that morning, Ukrainian intelligence officers stormed the foundation founder's home. Without warning or identification, they attacked him as he was tending to his flock of sheep.
When the founder’s wife rushed out to defend her husband, she too was attacked. Handcuffed and restrained, she was taken away, leaving their infant daughters—Elif, 1.5 years old, and Ayşe, just 9 months old—alone in the house. The sheep scattered, many were lost.
The accusations? "Terrorism."
Under the directive of then-President Petro Porošenko, this humanitarian and his foundation were branded as enemies of the state. A sham trial followed, where the presiding judge allegedly admitted that she was acting under orders from the highest levels of government.
With no evidence of wrongdoing, the journalist was deported, his permanent residency revoked, and his family left to fend for themselves. His daughters have since grown up in a war-torn Ukraine, separated from their father for nearly seven years.
A Parallel with Ukraine’s Struggles
Fast forward to February 24, 2022.
The dark dawn of the Russian invasion shattered Ukraine. Airstrikes, missiles, and artillery wreaked havoc on cities, forcing millions to flee. Families were torn apart. Homes, hospitals, and schools were reduced to rubble.
What happened to this Turkish family was now happening on a national scale. Ukrainians were subjected to the same helplessness, separation, and suffering that the İnan family endured years earlier.
It was impossible not to draw parallels. Could it be, as some suggest, a form of divine justice? Could the injustices committed under Porošenko’s leadership have invited this calamity upon Ukraine?
President Zelensky’s Role in Healing
Current President Volodymyr Zelensky is not responsible for the sins of his predecessor. Yet, the silence and inaction in addressing past wrongs weigh heavily. The İnan family’s story is not just about one family’s suffering but a symbol of broader systemic injustices.
Zelensky has the opportunity to demonstrate moral leadership. A public apology, an act of gratitude for the humanitarian efforts of Fond İnan, and a gesture of reconciliation could not only heal old wounds but also restore faith in Ukraine’s commitment to justice.
Why the World Should Care
The İnan family’s plight is a microcosm of the larger narrative of war, displacement, and human suffering. It is a stark reminder that no country, no matter how noble its cause, can ignore the principles of justice and fairness without consequences.
If the world truly supports Ukraine’s struggle for sovereignty and freedom, it must also advocate for accountability within its borders. Addressing past injustices strengthens the moral foundation of a nation and bolsters its global standing.
A Message for World Leaders
To President Zelensky: A simple act of recognition for the İnan family could ripple into profound change. It would send a message to Ukrainians and the world that Ukraine is a country where justice prevails, even in the face of adversity.
To global citizens and leaders: Stories like this need your attention. The fight for Ukraine’s freedom is not just on the battlefield but in its ability to uphold the values it seeks to defend.
Divine Justice Awaits
History teaches us that no leader, no nation, is immune to accountability. Petro Porošenko may no longer be in power, but his actions continue to cast a shadow over Ukraine. As Ukraine fights for its survival and sovereignty, addressing past injustices could unlock divine grace and human solidarity alike.
The İnan family waits, as does the world, to see if justice will prevail.
