The Virtue of Dream Interpretation Science

Indeed, Allah, the Almighty, says in the Quran:

The Virtue of Dream Interpretation Science

The Virtue of Dream Interpretation Science

The fact is, the science of dream interpretation is a noble and profound knowledge. Everyone knows that Allah bestowed this knowledge upon Prophet Joseph (peace be upon him). Indeed, Allah, the Almighty, says in the Quran:

"We established Joseph in the land of Egypt so that We might teach him the interpretation of dreams." (Quran, 12:21)

Ibn Abbas narrates, "The first thing Allah bestowed upon the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) regarding prophethood was the visit of a noble angel in a dream, saying to him, 'O Muhammad, congratulations! Allah has chosen you among all the prophets, granted you knowledge of the unseen, and made you the last of the prophets.' But he is the messenger of Allah and the last of the prophets."

When the Prophet woke up from this dream, he told it to Lady Khadija (may Allah be pleased with her). She said, "How fortunate you are! There is goodness and blessing for you in this dream." After the Night Journey, the Prophet had another dream. "I swear by Allah, Allah made the Prophet's dream come true." Furthermore, Allah, speaking through the tongue of Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him), says concerning his dream, "My son, I have seen in a dream that I must sacrifice you."

It is reported that this knowledge was a miracle of Prophet Joseph. Therefore, a knowledge that is a miracle of the prophets must indeed be noble and great.

Abdullah ibn Abbas reports from Suleiman, "A true dream is a revelation from Allah to His believing servants. Before good or evil reaches him, Allah warns him in this way, thus preventing him from being deceived by the vanities of the world and from being heedless of Allah."

Selman Mervi says, "I heard the Messenger of Allah say to his companions: When one of you sees a good dream, let him say 'I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan' several times and not tell anyone about the dream. Then no harm will come to him."

It is narrated from Imam Ali (peace be upon him), "When a believer sees a dream, he should know its interpretation, thus benefiting from it in a good way; and when he sees a bad dream, he should protect himself from its bad consequences with prayer, worship, and charity."

Ibn Sirin says, "Whoever attains all the stages of this knowledge possesses all knowledge. For the origin of every sought knowledge is not as varied as this knowledge; this knowledge is not compared by analogy, its method is good. There is a method in every knowledge, but the essence of this knowledge is related to people's worth, piety, astrological conditions, and different birth dates."

A dream may sometimes be interpreted literally, sometimes figuratively; sometimes for a woman, sometimes for a man; and sometimes it consists of mixed (meaningless) dreams. It should be known that every expert in a field does not need another science. However, a dream interpreter must know the science of Quranic interpretation, the words of our Prophet (peace be upon him) in this field, the interpretations of all interpreters, Arabic or non-Arabic, poems, vernacular, etc. He must be wise and insightful, understand people's conditions and appearances (read them from their faces), and must know the principles of interpretation very well. Moreover, he must have received divine inspiration and Allah's grace, turn to Allah, and not harbor anything beyond truth and reward in his speech.

I ask Allah to grant this knowledge we have to those who are free from sins, ugly words, and forbidden food. If anyone has such a structure, Allah will give him this grace. In this regard, Allah makes him the heir of the prophets...
